Although many may consider the two terms a contradition i consider myself a thinking Republican. Although I generally side with the Republicans on issues, i do, from time to time, disagree with the general party platform. I do not believe in merely following along like a sheep, but rather to think of the issues myself and make my own mind up.
In this veign it is amazing to take a step back and look at the difference, without judgement, to the Joint Chiefs’ letter in response to the Tom Toles Cartoon (that you the reader can look at on either of the links i will put up later in this post). The Republican bloggers make a big deal about how its a great thing that in this country when you disagree with something you don’t attack the person, like what is going in in Denmark, but rather you write a letter stating your disagreement.
On the other hand Democratic bloggers are ripping into the Joint Chiefs for writing the letter, saying that it is putting pressure on the paper for printing the cartoon, and (according to them) continuing the censorship that this administration is famous for.
Read the letter for yourself on either site, but read it. Make your own determination on the issue, dont let your party dictate your views make a decision on your own for once.
PS after reading it and thinking about it I happen to agree that it is merely a way of saying that the JC disagree, and that there is no pressure being put on by merely writing such a letter. I saw that there are no threats or indications of repercusions if similar cartoons are printed, merely stating how they disaprove of the cartoon in the only way an American should, WITHOUT violence
What if i want to respond to cartoons with violins? Can I do that and still be American?
